KIA continues to attack the market by continuing to deliver more electric cars. We got the new Sorento hybrid and plug-in. It puts its predecessor on the shoulders with its appearance, but is it enough to beat the Japanese competition?
Some time ago, KIA presented a large SUV, the Telluride model. This premiere resonated loudly in the automotive world. However, the car itself, due to its size and partly to European production standards, will never appear on the old continent. However, whoever said that KIA had forgotten about local customers was wrong. He created a smaller version of the American Telluride, better suited to our reality, and presented it as a new generation of the Sorento design.
I would not like to split the skin on the bear, but it seems that in this way their family SUV can go from popular to very popular.
One thing is certain. Visually, the car hits today’s trends, like Lewandowski to the goal, when he plays in a Bayern jersey. The Sorento doesn’t look like a mass-market brand SUV, it’s certainly close to its high-end competition. The Koreans were not afraid to present a car that is strong, expressive and unstructured. The front of the car is stunning, but my favorite part of the new KII is the rear. Its angularity is great, in addition it is emphasized by the character of the two rear lights. The size also shows that we are dealing with a serious competitor, but the car on Polish roads does not look like an overfed elephant, which is normal when we look at American cars in general. In short, KIA did well not to bring Telluride here, but to create its alternative, more suitable for our reality.
A separate USB for each passenger is something that no one asked for, but everyone needed

After opening the doors of the new Sorento, I expected to see a copy of the familiar interior from the Hyundai Tucson, after all, these cars are closely related. In fact, it turned out that both Koreans, despite the common denomination, are almost completely different stylistically from each other. Well, online watches are pretty similar, but they’re just cool so I don’t see anything wrong with that. Everything else is a completely different styling language, definitely more focused on stability than on the familiar futurism from Hyundai. Indeed, no one will complain about the amount of space, literally in each plane. It doesn’t matter if you are 160 cm tall or over two meters tall because you will have plenty of room for your head and legs here. That is, in the first two rows of seats, in the third, it will be worse, but this is not surprising. On the plus side, you can definitely read that the third row of seats is completely here and can be used in an emergency or for transporting small children. The competition often does not offer such an option. KIA remembers one more feature that is very important these days. Each passenger has a personal USB port. I wonder if there is a more important function in a family SUV? Probably not. This test can be completed.
Well, maybe not yet, but with these USBs being so well thought out, it’s a wonder that so few manufacturers remember about it. While I don’t agree with “you have a tablet and leave me alone” parenting, sometimes, especially on long trips, using a smartphone can be a matter of life and death. And since we’re already traveling, it’s time to talk about how the KIA hybrid works in practice.

The manufacturer theoretically promises about 70 kilometers of battery range, in practice it will be more than 60 kilometers, which is still enough to drive without domestic emissions every day. However, if we need to go further, we can drive the first 100 kilometers with a fuel consumption of around 2.5 liters. After the battery is removed, the desire for gas becomes obvious, but still the Sorento does not turn into a fuel-consuming monster. KIA also cleverly uses the opportunity to recharge the battery, whether it’s braking or driving on the road. In terms of hybrid technology, a huge step has been taken here and the Japanese competition that has been the benchmark until recently has reached the same level. Ba! The Koreans did at least one thing better, they used a standard automatic transmission with eight gears, instead of a continuously variable CVT. Thanks to this, the car works normally and accelerates faster and does not seem like a screeching sound.
Korean (or maybe Korean?) Can not be denied the lack of authority. Despite the 1.6-liter engine, the total power of the car line is about 265 HP and 350 Nm. Of course, you feel that the KIA has something to drive, but I certainly wouldn’t say that it is a car with almost 300 horses. Is it a matter of large dimensions or maybe my habits? Unfortunately, I can’t judge this, but I can assure you that nothing more is needed for normal driving that obeys the rules and passes the regular roads.

In my opinion, the tuning of the suspension and the operating system deserves praise, it is not too difficult. No one is going to go crazy around corners with this car, so graceful smoothness is all that’s needed.
The price list of the new Sorento starts at PLN 169,000 for the standard hybrid, the plug-in version costs at least two lakhs. However, with a well-equipped plug, you will leave the salon for 225,000. At today’s prices and the fact that a new electric Fiat 500 costs 170k, the price tag on the KII looks like a lifetime deal.
