Hyundai Ioniq 5: facelift and new version of N-Line

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 has only been on the market in Germany for almost three years, but the second phase of the facelift for the electric crossover has already been announced. This time it is less than that of autumn 2022, because it does not happen only in secret or in the form of modified devices. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 will also look a little different than before.

Design

As part of the facelift, Hyundai offers the Ioniq 5 new front and rear aprons, which increase its length by two centimeters to 4.66 meters, while all other dimensions (width 1.89 meters, height 1.61 meters and wheelbase 3.00 meters) remain. okay The V-shaped trim strip on the front bumper now has a different look and the roof spoiler has been extended by five centimeters. There are also new wheels with improved aerodynamic designs.

internal space

Innovations in the interior of the Ioniq 5 are primarily seen in the center console area. This no longer looks sleek: the smartphone charging cradle moves up and is now to the left of the two cup holders, which are arranged one behind the other instead of next to each other. There is now a button bar here that can be used to perform frequently used functions such as seat heating and ventilation, heated steering wheel or parking assist. The three-spoke instead of two-spoke steering wheel has a new design with illuminated LED pixels and differently arranged function buttons, while Hyundai’s interior designers have also redesigned the infotainment and climate control controls.

New digital features

As part of the facelift, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 receives the company’s latest generation Connected Car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC). Its software can be updated wirelessly “over the air” and allows smartphones to be connected wirelessly via Apple Carplay and Android Auto. In addition, some new assistance systems are introduced: In addition to the improved lane departure warning system, this includes remote controlled parking, emergency brake operation during front, side and rear parking, and functions of monitoring if the driver’s hands are on the steering wheel. There are also new optional features such as the Matrix LED lighting system and camera focus assist.

Bigger battery

As with the facelift in autumn 2022, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 will also have a larger battery capacity this time. It increases from 77.4 to 84 kilowatt hours, which should therefore lead to a greater maximum. Hyundai aims for a value of 570 km; The Ioniq 5 currently achieves a maximum range of 507 km according to the WLTP. In addition, the initial state of the battery for fast charging can now be selected manually. Until now, this was only done automatically, depending on when the corresponding payment point should be reached according to the navigation system.

More technology updates

For a smoother and more comfortable driving experience, the Ioniq 5 receives new shock absorbers. In addition, the body has been stiffened in several places, the front part has a new cross brace and Hyundai puts additional reinforcement in the area of the rear wheels. All of this is aimed at reducing vibrations, improving lightness and reducing noise, with additional sound insulation integrated around the rear-mounted engine. The Koreans are also improving static safety with reinforced doors, a stronger B-pillar and an increase in the number of airbags to eight.

Hyundai Ioniq 5 N Line

After the real sports version Hyundai Ioniq 5 N was introduced recently, the standard model in the future will receive the least visible variant of the N Line equipment. The front and back aprons have a special design, as do the side skirts. New 20-inch aluminum wheels add to the visual appeal. Inside there is also a special design with sports seats with the N symbol and different red stitching, which you can choose from two covers (fabric-leather or Alcantara leather). Hyundai Ioniq 5 N Line has unique features in the design of the steering wheel and dashboard, as well as the pedals, which have metal pads. A black headliner completes the N-Line style.

Market launch and pricing

The facelifted Hyundai Ioniq 5 and its new N-Line version will enter the market in South Korea in March 2024. Over the course of the year, the facelift will be released gradually in various markets around the world. It is not yet known when this will happen in Germany. The same applies to prices.
