What to Know

  • José Feliciano and Tres Souls, Indian contemporary dance company Blue13, and a pair of Street Food Cinema performances are on the schedule.

The word “pass” can mean the kind of big passage that people go through in an efficient, place-to-be spirit, but honestly? This idea is not entirely accurate, at all, for Los Angeles.

Take the long way to Cahuenga Pass, long home to a pair of beautiful amphitheater-type outdoor recreation spaces.

There’s the Hollywood Bowl, of course, the band’s bold celebrity. The world-famous venue arrived more than a century ago, featuring the brightest names in music, comedy and theatre.

And just a few minutes northeast of the Bowl, crossing the 101? There is John Anson Ford Amphitheatrehalcyon, a hilly area known for high-quality concerts, energetic dance performances and dramatic entries to remember.

And, like the Hollywood Bowl, Ford can also trace its early days to the 1920s.

These famous neighbors have kept Southern Californians in high spirits for decades, but there are a few exceptions we pay attention to regularly today, including when venues show their upcoming lists.

The Hollywood Bowl usually pulls back the curtain on its summer schedule in early February, while The Ford makes its live lineup in the spring.

The day of fun has arrived, and a line-up of acclaimed musicians, celebrated films, and exciting dance performances are on the deck for a lovely al fresco setting.

The Los Angeles Philharmonic has revealed what fans can expect during the 2024 run, which begins on July 14.

José Feliciano and Tres Souls, Alan Cumming and Ari Shapiro, Prateek Kuhad, and Guster with the LA Phil will transport audiences to the starry sky, along with many interesting guests.

Blue13, a popular Indian dance company, will present “100 Seconds to Midnight,” a soulful reflection on the Doomsday Clock, while record label Jazz Is Dead will enjoy a three-night residency.

Devendra Banhart, Stephen Merritt of The Magnetic Fields, and Grandeza Mexicana Folk Ballet Company will also add to the impromptu schedule.

“There is great joy in bringing projects to life in collaboration with artists,” said Cynthia Fuentes, Director of The Ford.

“We aim to foster unique ideas, voices and presentations to create a season that tells a special story about Los Angeles. We are proud to welcome such a diverse range of artists, art forms and communities to The Ford’s 2024 season.”

“Our platform gives artists a chance to be creative and explore new concepts and techniques. It also connects them with an audience that fully appreciates the one-of-a-kind experiences that happen in this space.”
