In his US debut, Nico Koch (Becker Racing KTM) made it to the final straightaway and scored his first 5 points in US Supercross. Especially in the LCQ, Braunschweiger showed fighting spirit and lane selection instincts.
Ranked 26th overall, German Becker Racing KTM rider Nico Koch went straight into the evening program in his US debut. He was initially unhappy with 17th place in the previous race: “I had a really good start, but I was stopped a bit and lost a lot of places. I was very upset about that. But I knew there was still something possible with a good start in the LCQ.”
Then the German stood at the starting gate for the LCQ. “My start was good and I was able to fight for the top positions.” The man from Braunschweig was in 5th place when the race had to be stopped with a red flag a minute before the end after Avery Long crashed badly. Koch then had just one minute and one lap to fulfill his dream of reaching the final. After the restart he attacked and after half a lap he was on the rear wheel of Max Stanford, who was able to pass him on the inside with a very skillful maneuver in the left hand bend. “We were just giddy with joy,” recalls Koch.
Koch’s focus was the evening program. Now he was in the final in his first US match. “In the main event I tried to complete my rounds solidly and finished in 17th place. I would like to thank all the supporters who made this possible for me. It was one of the best experiences of my life so far and we will continue in the next round.
Nico Koch plans a total of 3 US missions. The next race is Anaheim-2 next weekend. This is followed by the 4th round of the championship in Glendale.
