Former GP driver Nikita Mazepin said last year that he has now buried his dream of returning to Formula 1. This year’s program does not only include racing.
A dream came true for Nikita Mazepin in 2021, he was able to compete in his first and only Formula 1 season. In the Haas race he increased the pace with Mick Schumacher, but remained without points in the American team that lost the GP race – as his team-mate Germany. The following year, Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine began and Mazepin lost his place in the first division.
Because Dimitri’s father had close ties to Vladimir Putin and, as a major businessman in the mining company Uralkali – which was also the sponsor of the Haas race in 2021 – fully supported the measures threatening Ukraine, the young racing driver was also placed on the airport. EU sanctions list.
Mazepin successfully defended himself against this, but ruled out a return to the Prime Minister class in 2024: “”I’m really over the moon. At the same time, I wonder what it all means – to be restricted at an important stage in my career, only for the European court to decide that it was all a big mistake,” he explained on Instagram after the victory in the legal battle.
And the 25-year-old insisted: “It was painful to see how everyone in Formula 1 grew without me being a part of it. Getting justice in court is a good thing, but the truth is that I can’t get those years back, those important years in life and development of every professional athlete.”
“Now, at the ripe old age of 25, I must realize that it is time to look forward and not back. “It is time to write the next act of my life as an adult, with dreams that are not tied to speed and trophies, but to the use of my mind and find my purpose,” Mazepin explained.
This year, challenges outside the world of athletics are also on his personal agenda. Russian news agency “Tass” reports that Mazepin has confirmed: “This year I will complete five competitions in different sports.” In addition to sand buggy racing, the Russian also organizes boxing matches and participates in triathlon competitions.
