Rüsselsheim. At the beginning of its fourth season, TheADAC Opel Electric Rally Cup “powered by GSe” already. The 15 100 kW (136 hp) Opel Corsa Rally Electric is entered in this year’s opening race on 3 and 4 May at the ADAC Actronics Rally Sulingen (Lower Saxony). The group of participants in the world’s first and only electricity rally cup stands out for its international diversity. Pilots and sailors from eight different nations will participate. A total of ten new teams, including four women’s and several mixed, bringing a breath of fresh air to the electric competition.

The French sports association FFSA is once again using two Opel Corsa Rally Electrics as part of its youth academy development program. This year the cars will be used by Emma Chalvin/Emy Ailloud-Perraud and Alizée Pottier/Joanna Verdier. Also as part of promoting young talent, the Royal Belgian Automobile Sports Association RACB, in collaboration with Opel Belgium, has given Lyssia Baudet/Pauline Denis a chance. Also Steffe and co-pilot Nina Spitaler will fly the Austrian flag, while German Ann Felke will partner with navigator Maximilian Kugler.

The ever-growing international interest in the ADAC Opel Electric Rally Cup is also reflected in the commitments of the Netherlands and Spain. The Royal Netherlands Automobile Sports Association (KNAF) is using the cup as a platform for the in-depth investigation of young talents, where three young people will be used this season. Fabian Kamermans, 19, will be behind the wheel in Sulingen. From the Iberian Peninsula and with the help of Opel Spain, a completely Spanish team joins the electrifying competition.

As in recent years, the Austrian squad is a force to be reckoned with. And Alfred Kramer, Pia Steffe and Luca Pröglhöf, three pilots from the Alpine country take part in the exciting competition. Pröglhöf, in particular, has been one of the favorites, and not only since his first victory as part of the Central European Games Championship 2023. Hungary’s Bendegúz Hangodi has high hopes for his first season in the ADAC Opel Electric Rally Cup.

An ambitious guest: the return of DTM champion Timo Scheider

Apart from Pröglhöf, only the Germans Christian Lemke and Johannes Wittenbeck and the Alsatian Anthony Rott already have experience in the ADAC Opel Electric Cup And then, of course, there is Timo Scheider. The 45-year-old DTM (Car Touring Car) champion of 2008 and 2009 will make his second appearance in the Opel Corsa Rally Electric at the ADAC Actronics Rallye Sulingen. He hopes to improve on his impressive debut in 2021, when he finished fifth at the ADAC Rallye Stemweder Berg. Scheider is an old friend at Opel: he was already an Opel driver in Formula 3 and DTM between 1997 and 2004.

“The good progress of the ADAC Opel Electric Rally Cup continues for the fourth year in a row. The number of participants is as impressive as the event calendar,” said Jörg Schrott, Head of Opel Motorsport. “International awareness of our project is constantly increasing. Interest from all over Europe shows that we are on the right track with our innovative concept. Unique development opportunities for our participants also contribute to this. By Calle Carlberg and Timo Schulz, the Champions of The 2023 and 2022 championships will start in the European Junior Championship this season. With the ADAC Opel Electric Cup, the strong partners of Opel and ADAC offer the young talents of the rally a unique platform, and the racetrack this year is recognized by main characters.”
