Nissan: 100,000 “e-Power” electric cars sold – ecomento.de

Nissan reports that its “e-Power” vehicle has sold more than 100,000 units in Europe since its introduction in September 2022. So far, 65,367 sales of the Qashqai and 34,663 of the X-Trail have been registered with the technology across Europe.

The e-Power system consists of a high-performance battery and an integrated power train that includes a gasoline engine, a power generator, an electric motor and an inverter. The combustion engine is used only to generate electricity, which flows through the inverter to the battery, the electric motor or both, depending on the driving conditions.

When the power demand is low and the battery charge level is high, the electric motor only uses electricity from the battery. When there is a high demand for power, the gasoline engine generates electricity to drive the electric motor and charge the battery. As soon as maximum power is needed, the electric motor draws the energy produced directly from the combustion engine. In addition, kinetic energy is obtained during deceleration and stored in the battery.

Electricity is generated depending on the road conditions: If the driving noise increases due to the road conditions and the current speed, the combustion engine turns on to charge the battery. This means that it needs to be used less in idle mode, which keeps the noise level low in these phases.

“The e-Power drive is an important part of Nissan’s electrification strategy,” says manager David Moss. “It represents the perfect solution for customers who are not yet ready to completely switch to an electric car, but still want to enjoy the comfortable driving experience of an electric car. From the first presentation of the driving concept to the first 100,000 cars sold, our journey with e-Power continues – entry-level technology in electromobility excellence.”

In addition to the European market, e-Power technology is also available in Australia and New Zealand for the Qashqai and X-Trail, and for the Qashqai also on the Moroccan market.
