Honda and Nissan are currently not among the pioneers in e-mobility. Together now they want to get along. This should not affect the existing cooperation between Nissan, Renault and Mitsubishi.

Nissan and Honda are exploring a strategic partnership on electric vehicles and applications. Among other things, cooperation on software platforms and basic components of the electronic car will now be discussed, as the companies say. The goal is to accelerate the development of new vehicles and reduce costs.

As Reuters reported, among others, Nissan CEO Makoto Uchida said at a press conference last Friday that the two Japanese manufacturers were ready for cooperation in all regions. Uchida also explained that any cooperation should not affect the existing cooperation with Renault and Mitsubishi. Nissan and Honda may also consider working with existing partners if opportunities arise.

Nissan was a pioneer in electromobility with the Leaf in 2010, but has recently lost its leadership. The Ariya e-crossover, which came to the market late and was sold at a very high price, was also unable to close the gap to the competition. Honda has also had little luck with electric cars so far; The Honda E subcar was popular, but not a sales success. In the fall of 2023, Honda launched its second electric model, the E:Ny1.
