Nissan GT-R T-spec Takumi and Skyline Edition: special models

Nissan recently announced that it will extend the life of Godzilla by another year. The GT-R returns for the 2025 model year. Not for Europe; The Japanese coupe had already left here in the summer of 2022. But for selected markets with less stringent production and safety regulations, including of course Japan and the United States. They’re currently receiving two new special models that are bidding farewell to dealer showrooms for the 2024 model year: the T-spec Takumi Edition and the Skyline Edition.

The first looks more impressive and honors the engine builders of the same name, who assemble each VR38DETT engine by hand. Accordingly, the 3.8-liter biturbo V6 has a plaque with the name of the respective Takumi master painted in red, and the color code means that special attention was paid to the correct tolerances and balancing of the components when assembling the engine. Another feature of the T-spec Takumi Edition is the gold badge with the chassis number on the engine compartment.

Special models and special colors

Visually, the special model can be identified by its painting in the color “Midnight Purple” and the unique interior in Mori Green. From a technical point of view, the Takumi Edition has additional features that also characterize the standard T-Spec GT-R. Wide front fenders make way for 20-inch gold-colored forged wheels in Nismo design, which come out with special flares. A carbon ceramic brake system works behind it, while a driving assistance package called “Vehicle Dynamic Control” also features a Nismo configuration.

The Nissan GT-R in Skyline Edition is a little bit nicer, but a little less mean. It is reminiscent of the model series name that the GT-R sports models had until the R34 generation. This special model is based on the coupé in quality materials and brings a “Bayside Blue” color finish to the range. This color was once an important part of the GT-R color range, but was deleted with the end of the R34 generation. Only in 2019 it returned briefly with a special model for the 50th anniversary of the series. A similar, slightly lighter blue in the interior is called “Sora Blue”.

Known technical data

Aside from showing up in the T-spec Takumi Edition, nothing changes about the GT-R’s drivetrain. In US specifications, the VR38DETT engine currently delivers 573 hp and a maximum of 633 Newton meters, sending its power to all four wheels. A six-speed dual-clutch transmission is located in a transaxle configuration on the rear axle. The T-Spec version of the coupe, which weighs around 1.8 tons, accelerates from zero to 60 mph (96.6 km/h) in 3.4 seconds and has a top speed of 322 km/h.

Nissan has not yet announced the prices of the two special models of the GT-R T-spec Takumi Edition and Skyline Edition. However, they are likely to be higher than those of the standard T-Spec (currently at least 141,090 dollars or equivalent to 130,000 euros) and the standard GT-R with premium equipment (121,090 dollars or 111,000 euros).
