Nissan Qashqai facelift: infotainment and exterior have been refreshed

In Germany, the Qashqai is Nissan’s best seller, and by a surprising margin. Nissan’s runner-up, the Juke, had 5,000 registrations last year, which was almost a third of the Qashqai’s registration numbers, with the brand’s other models much lower. Nissan wants to keep the SUV clean with a model update. However, no comprehensive intervention was made to achieve this.

The SUV format is sometimes thought to meet the safety needs of its drivers. Perhaps that’s what prompted Nissan to verbally give the revised front the inspiration of “ancient Japanese tank designs”. Before you cringe: the Qashqai remains a well-behaved car. What is new is the small radiator grille whose features resemble the daytime running lights. A few color programs based on accessories around the wheel arches and at the level of the sills almost complete the exterior changes.

In the interior, Qashqai remains one of its most important advantages: largely intuitive operation. This is no longer offered. Nissan has revamped the entertainment electronics. The Qashai is the first Nissan model in Europe to integrate Google services. In this way, you can not only use the usual services of the search engine, but also control some functions of the car through voice command, promises Nissan. In addition, the Google app store will open – how far remains to be seen. Now it is also possible to use Amazon Alexa, a system that carefully listens and interprets, for example, the desire for certain music or news.

Anyone who fears their car has been stolen can remotely disable it using an app and share its location with authorities. A new 3D view with eight views and an improved view under the front axle should help when parking. Another new feature is the ability to reserve parking spaces that the car can drive itself to. “Small mode” was reset in the instrument cluster, which is intended to reduce distractions. Then only the current gear (why?), driving mode and speed are displayed.

Smart design, intuitive operation: the most important advantages of the Qashqai dashboard were preserved. The feel of the material should be further enhanced with a little Alcantara.

Previously there were three engines on the Nissan Qashqai. The press release describes the technically interesting hybrid drive, serial in detail, but remains in the program in a similar form. When asked, Nissan did not want to answer if there will be any changes to the 1.3-liter engine, which was previously available in the Qashqai with 103 and 116 kW. This also applies to the price. In the current price list from October 1, 2023, the basic model is sold for 29,440 euros. The top model is officially available from 48,970 euros. A bit of premium should be expected, although Nissan won’t overdo it in this regard. After all, the brand wants to keep the best-selling Qashqai attractive, and one of the biggest advantages of this SUV is that it has a comparable price.
