Take a good look at the nose of the updated Nissan Qashqai. There the brand name is in quotation marks. So “Nissan”. As if the car itself is questioning its identity.
In fact, we’re reading too much into it, because the grille quotients are a new style element on the facelifted Nissan Qashqai. Because the designers have changed the front especially, making the semi-compact crossover look razor-sharp.
In partial childhood
Nissan introduced the segment in 2006 with the first generation Qashqai, which was a hybrid between hatchback, station wagon and SUV. Nissan sold a lot of the second generation (2013 – 2021) in the Netherlands in particular, with more than 7,300 units sold in the peak year of 2017.
Nissan can only dream of those kinds of numbers now, but the Qashqai is certainly not doing badly, with an annual sales figure of more than 3000. It is possible that this facelift could give it a new look.
Upgrade Nissan Qashqai
The nose of the car has been completely revised, the rear not so much. Nissan has only tinkered with the bumper and light units. As befits a facelift, new paint and wheels are available.
Any further improvements? Yes, Nissan says it has improved the 360-degree camera, interior equipment and also electronic driving aids. The Qashqai is the first Nissan in Europe to be connected to Google online services, such as Google Maps.
Semi-electric e-Power
Nothing changes about the park. The Nissan Qashqai is still available as a hybrid, with 140 or 158 hp, and as an e-Power. The latter is a serial hybrid, which means that its electric motor always drives the wheels and the gasoline engine only produces electricity.
Autovisie has had the Qashqai e-Power on its editorial staff for six months as an endurance test vehicle. In the video below you can see our experience with the hybrid crossover.
