McLaren F1 wants more: “Third place among constructors will be a strong result”

According to McLaren team boss Andrea Stella, third place among the constructors is a good place for McLaren to enjoy. Still, with the team, he wants more.

In conversation with Motorsport.com Stella informs us that there is satisfaction within the team, especially if – just like in 2023 – the updates it uses on the track will also be successful. “As long as we see that what we plan to bring to the track comes to fruition, then we are happy because we know we are on our way, which we think is a strong way.”

A strong third result for McLaren

However, according to Stella, McLaren must remain realistic and third place among the constructors would already be the best result for the British team. “I think if we look at the facts, if we look at the numbers, if we can take third place in the championship and McLaren is the third best car, that will be a big result for our team. It’s a number of circuits where it looks like we can compete with Ferrari. So then we say: ‘For what?’

McLaren goes to a higher level

However, Stelle says he will aim for the best with McLaren, because he also knows that deciding a position early is impossible in F1. “Honestly, in Formula 1 it’s not about wishing ‘I’d like to be in that position’, you just push as hard as you can. Just try to build your car as much as you can, race the weekend as much as possible and then finally try to see where you are after Miami, when we start some of development, we will have more information to see what we can compete with.
