around 45,000 euros for the entry level, is that enough to worry the Germans?

Peugeot is the last French manufacturer to honor the sedan segment. With its 508, the lion brand is lining up against the BMW 3 Series and other Mercedes C Classes But even with a base price set at more than 45,000 euros, can it hope to worry them?

Last year, Peugeot released the second generation for its sedan, the 508. The latter is also the last representative of this type among the French manufacturers, Citroën and Renault having thrown in the towel. Therefore, it is up to the lioness to have the difficult task of reminding the Germans that they are not alone in the market. With its lovely design and build quality, we can say that the mission is already half done.

It must be said that its thin lines and aggressive styling allow the Peugeot 508 to stand out from its competitors. In fact, it’s even more competitive with the 4 Series Gran Coupe than with the 3 Series. Especially since its modification has brought it to a level, thanks to the beauty of its new light and technological signature.

Visually, this 508 has all the cards in hand to take on some German competitors. Don’t just lift the hat…

There are still a few horses missing from the equation…

The interior offers a completely opposite approach to that of Mercedes and BMW. The Germans have two screens, and simplified dashboards, even as refined as possible. The French woman, on the other hand, always plays the air card “cockpit d’avion”with its push buttons, its Peugeot i-Cockpit and its centrally integrated screen. A small ruched completes the outfit. In terms of equipment, the 508 comes standard with a number of driving aids, dual-zone automatic climate control, a reversing camera and even full LED headlights. A level of more than adequate equipment, but which does not exceed its competitors in the Rhine.

Peugeot 508: around 45,000 euros for the entry level, is this enough to worry the Germans?

The interior is one of the 508’s strong points. It may not be as ergonomic as the Series 3, but it’s more attractive.

Under the hood, however, is the bottom of the party. The entry-level version is equipped with a 130 horsepower 1.5 BlueHDI, linked to an 8-speed automatic transmission. A slightly cleaner engine on it, which quickly surrenders to the German factories, which offer at least 50 horsepower more in their access versions. Sure, they cost more, for some, but they can claim road conditions.

Unfortunately, despite its price being more accessible than the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé, set at 45,900 euros, the 508 struggles to convince compared to the German machines. Especially since the Series 3 is cheaper. Indeed, the latter is more classic in terms of interior presentation, but it makes a difference under the hood, with more powerful engines and therefore with better approval. More reach is good, but more still needs to follow…
