The hated car by Omtzigt is now a cheap and reliable used car

About ten years ago, the Dutch road network was suddenly flooded with the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. The attractive scheme of business drivers was the reason for this, much to the chagrin of Pieter Omtzigt. The same cars are now widely offered as used cars.

It is the third generation of Mitsubishi Outlander that suddenly became a huge success in the Netherlands. The PHEV version was very popular.

Pieter Omtzigt already warned

With the plug-in hybrid, business drivers did not have to pay additional taxes for personal use of the SUV, which can also tow 1,500 kg. An offer that no other car manufacturer could offer.

Pieter Omtzigt foresaw the chaos this arrangement could cause and the money it would cost the government in subsidies for (among other things) the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. “It’s not hard to imagine what will happen if you combine the keywords car, tax, Dutch and almost free,” he said De Volkskrant. The NSC leader should remove the Tesla subsidy he mentioned.

Many plug-in hybrids are now offered as used cars

The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV became a favorite of commercial drivers and rental companies. However, the additional tax benefit was used only for five years and the lease contracts have also expired. As a result, many of these plug-ins can now be found as used cars on the second-hand market.

As a used car with less than 200,000 kilometers on the odometer, you can already experience Pieter Omtzigt’s nightmare. from around 11,000 euros.

Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV seems to be very reliable

If we can believe the ANWB (and we do), it’s also proven to be a very reliable car. “Despite the complex technology, the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV is a very strong vehicle that does not compromise on anything,” says De Wegenwacht.
