(Boursier.com) – Turkish Airlines he is about to sign a big contract with Rolls-Royce and Airbus for domestic production of aircraft components. According to ‘Bloomberg’, which cites Turkish officials close to the issue, the agreement, which will be part of a major contract signed by a Turkish company with Airbus last year, could reach 20 billion dollars. The agreement can be formalized at an event to be held Istanbul later this month.

In mid-December, Turkey’s national carrier signed a firm purchase order for 230 Airbus planes with options for several more as it seeks to expand its Istanbul hub and better compete with regional rivals such as Emirates and Qatar Airways. As part of the order, Turkey pushed domestic production of aircraft parts, the sources said. Turkish companies, including state-owned TUSAS Engine Industries and TEI, are likely to be part of the local manufacturing plan, agency sources said.
