Is Lance Stroll threatened with retirement from Formula 1?

If you don’t deliver, you’ve got to go – that’s been the motto in Formula 1. And it looks like a number of drivers may be saying goodbye to motorsport’s premier class after this season. Daniel Ricciardo continues to have a tough time with the Racing Bulls, Logan Sargeant shows no signs of change at Williams in his second year and Sauber duo Zhou Guanyu and Valtteri Bottas could also face a split due to the impending takeover of Audi. So one thing already seems certain: the starting lineup for 2025 will not be the same as this year’s.

After years, a familiar name may be missing: Lance Stroll. The son of Aston Martin team owner Lawrence Stroll has been able to rely on his father so far, as he has stumbled several times in recent years. Ever since veteran Fernando Alonso joined the team from Silverstone, the poor performance of the 25-year-old Canadian has become increasingly evident. While the 42-year-old Spaniard is getting everything out of the car in his second year at Aston Martin, his younger teammate is stumbling. This is what happened recently in China. Stroll crashed into the back of Ricciardo during the safety car phase and then even called the Australian “stupid”.

Aston Martin’s number two believed he was perfectly fine and could not understand the 10-second penalty, which surprised his rival in the crash, Ricciardo. “Looks like I’m stupid and it was my fault,” joked Racing Bull about the inexplicable incident. Race stewards quickly awarded Stroll two penalty points, which meant he was just five points short of twelve penalty points, which would have resulted in a ban from the race. The two points from the ban list will only expire in July, which is why the 25-year-old should probably be extra careful over the next few weeks. In general, Stroll’s time seems to be running out. Sometimes even dad can’t fix it anymore.
