Ohio State Highway Patrol urges drivers celebrating St. Patrick’s Day to designate sober driver – WHIO TV 7 and WHIO Radio

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is encouraging motorists to be mindful of the potential for impaired driving during the upcoming St. Patrick’s Day festivities. By designating a sober driver, individuals can help ensure that roads remain safe for everyone.

The Highway Patrol is urging drivers to be mindful of the dangers of operating a vehicle while under the influence of drugs or alcohol. In particular, they are warning revelers to refrain from driving if they have been drinking, and to appoint a designated driver if they plan on celebrating.

The Patrol cautions that even a small amount of alcohol can significantly decrease a person’s ability to drive safely. In addition, the lack of sleep or fatigue due to celebrating late into the night can also impair driving.

“We want everyone to have a safe and enjoyable St. Patrick’s Day celebration,” said Lieutenant Robert Sellers, spokesman for the Ohio State Highway Patrol. “That’s why we are advocating that everyone designate a sober driver if they are going to be out and celebrating this St. Patrick’s Day holiday.”

The Patrol is emphasizing that anyone who has been drinking should not get behind the wheel. If they do, they risk not only their own safety, but the safety of everyone on the road.

“The consequences of impaired driving can be serious,” Lieutenant Sellers said. “We want to make sure everyone stays safe this St. Patrick’s Day, and designating a sober driver is a great way to do that.”
