Only 1 Large Luxury Car Made the IIHS 2023 Top Safety Pick List

The list of 2023 Top Safety Picks from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) is out, and only one large luxury car has earned the distinction. The Volvo S90, with its advanced driver-assist systems, is the only car that has earned the institute’s highest safety rating.

The Volvo S90, a large luxury sedan, is the sole vehicle to have attained the IIHS’ Top Safety Pick+ designation for 2023, an acclaim that requires a combination of superior crashworthiness and advanced driver-assist systems. The S90 is equipped with a suite of driver-assistance technologies which use cameras, radar, and ultrasonic sensors to provide enhanced safety and convenience for drivers.

The S90’s standard safety features include collision avoidance and automatic emergency braking, which can detect and alert drivers to possible collisions, and can even act to minimize damage in the event of a crash. It also features lane-keeping assist, which can detect when the car is veering out of its lane and can take corrective action, as well as adaptive cruise control, which maintains a set distance from cars in front of it.

To achieve the Top Safety Pick+ rating, the S90 underwent a series of crash tests and evaluations, including a frontal crash test, a side impact test, and a roof-crush test. The car also underwent a battery of evaluations for its headlight and crash-avoidance technologies, including the aforementioned collision avoidance and automatic emergency braking.

The S90 was the only large luxury car to secure the Top Safety Pick+ rating from the IIHS for 2023. With its advanced driver-assist systems and strong crashworthiness ratings, the Volvo S90 stands out as a leader in the field of vehicle safety.
