The word of the president

“In the most recent years, Sustainability has moved from the level of individual responsibility to that of corporate responsibility. In accordance with the requirements associated with the energy transition, sustainability has also become an incredible development opportunity for companies that have always made it a value of brand, as in Volvo”. With these words the speech was opened Michele Crisci, President of Volvo Italy. Moreover, over the years now the Swedish brand’s commitment to sustainability has changed, changing from a responsibility to a real opportunity. It is no longer a matter of producing electric cars, but also and above all of establishing the entire supply chain of zero impact, making not only a green car, but also everything that surrounds and affects its entire life cycle. “It’s no longer a marketing plan, but a promise. Big international money is only investing in companies with sustainable plans. Not just zero-emission cars, but being able to produce them in a sustainable way” Crisci continued.

A concrete promise

Another point of fundamental importance emphasized by Crisci during his speech is cooperation with institutions, as is happening in Gothenburg, Sweden, where Mobility Innovation Destination Torslanda. This is a project that allows you to test, validate and introduce innovations such as wireless car charging, two-way charging between the Internet and an electric vehicle (vehicle to grid) and autonomous driving functions in the same urban context. In general, sustainability according to Volvo translates into reducing the impact on the environment, increasing the social impact, making the company’s activities and the use of vehicles sustainable and acting to spread sustainable values in society. A commitment that has been actively pursued since 2019. Since then, 69% of Volvo’s corporate operations now use climate-neutral energy. The production plants have reached the use of 100% electricity from sustainable sources and from 2018 to today Volvo has reduced the CO2 emissions of the car by 19%.
