Opel launches the GSE division – it will combine electromobility and emotion

There was a GSi, there will be a GSe – a sign of the times in the Opel range, which announces a new electric model line with a sporty twist. Unofficially, it is said that the first could be the new Astra with more than 300 horsepower.

Forget GSi, forget OPC. Opel’s sports division will now be the GSe, focusing on exciting models with an electric or electric drive. GSe, short for Grand Sport Electric – will decorate the proposals prepared by the driver with the pleasure of driving in mind.

“The GSe will combine sporty handling with the looks and performance of electric powertrains. The GSe name is a nod to our historic GSi models and complements the GS offerings already produced. Vauxhall (Opel) is committed to electrification and the GSe demonstrates. that performance and the pleasure from driving will be part of the electric future” Says Vauxhall managing director James Taylor.

Currently, Opel/Vauxhall has the electric Corsa, Mokka, Combo and Vivaro in its range. The range will soon be extended to electric Astra. The brand aims to have an electric version of every model by 2024 and a full electric transition after 2028.

At the moment, we don’t know which of those models will be the first to receive the GSe designation. However, the British newspaper Auto Express suggests so it could be the Astra Sports Tourer with a powerful 300 hp plug-in hybrid already known from other examples of Stellantis. Time will tell if these revelations turn out to be true.
