We made it an April Fool’s joke and it still has to come true: Stellantis announces Alfa Romeo’s return to competition. During a recent panel discussion in Misano, as part of the Formula E event (where Maserati finished 9th and 12th), Carlos Tavares, CEO of Stellantis, answered journalists’ questions about the future of the brand in Biscione in motorsport.

« Alfa Romeo will return to the world of motor racing,” says Carlos Tavares. “It’s part of the brand’s DNA, its heritage. » Fans of the brand in Biscione can therefore rejoice: the announcement not only confirms Alfa Romeo’s future return to sports arenas, but also underlines the group’s commitment to preserve and strengthen the competitive heritage of brand.

Discussions about this restoration are already underway, involving important people such as Jean-Marc Finot, head of Stellantis Motorsport and Jean-Philippe Imparato, director of Alfa Romeo. However, Carlos Tavares insists that the final decision on the exact time of return and the specific competitions in which Alfa Romeo will participate have not yet been made. “The ‘time’ remains to be determined,” he says.

In his statement, Tavares also shared his strategic vision good time to join or return to the game. According to him, it is important to enter the competitive cycle at a time when the cost is good and the brand can grow with discipline, thereby increasing its competitiveness. This is careful calculation aimed at maximizing the return on marketing investment.

The potential for Alfa Romeo’s comeback is huge. Competitions such as Formula E, the World Endurance Championship (WEC), or even a joyous return to Formula 1 or touring car racing are being considered. However, Tavares insists the importance of choosing the right time to return, considering the vicissitudes and volatility of the motorsport world.

“I can share with you that in all motorcycle disciplines, the cycle is the same: it starts slowly, grows, explodes and then falls again. Again and again,” says Tavares. “The time when we enter this cycle is strategically important for what we do. »

Let’s add that several months ago, Jean-Philippe Imparato had already announced the return of the brand to the competition, wanting to do so as an owner and not as a simple sponsor.

In conclusion, although the announcement does not come with a specific timetable, it confirms Stellantis’ strong desire to return Alfa Romeo to where many lovers and fans of the brand believe it belongs: on the race track.
