BMW will help Rimac bring EV technology to the general public

Mate Rimac has no plans to keep his EV knowledge to himself. Rimac previously worked with Hyundai, Kia and Porsche and bought a majority stake in Bugatti. In addition to Bugatti Rimac, the Rimac Group now includes a unit that sells Nevera – called Rimac Automobili – and a branch that makes cars, batteries and software. This last part is called Rimac Technology and is now entering into a contract with BMW.

In a press release, BMW talks about a ‘long-term, strategic partnership in the field of fully electric drive technology’. The aim of the partnership is ‘to develop innovative solutions for high voltage batteries in electric vehicles’. Exactly how this will manifest is still unclear, but BMW has already provided a behind-the-scenes look.

What will Rimac and BMW do?

“The long-term cooperation with the BMW Group is a sign of the transition of Rimac Technology from a high-performance supplier to a high-quality supplier at the top level,” BMW writes. In addition, according to BMW, Rimac is ready to ‘deliver large-scale projects that meet the highest automotive standards’.

So it’s still a little unclear, but the word ‘large volume’ indicates that Rimac wants to be more than just providing batteries for big cars. BMW confirms that the partnership is different from the EVs presented in the Neue Klasse. Brands also says that we will hear more about the partnership soon. I hope there will be more concrete plans.
