Here is the new electric car from Chevrolet

Launched for the first time in 2022, the new Chevrolet Equinox gives us news. This new electric car should have a range of more than 500 kilometers at a price of less than $35,000. Enough to give the Tesla Model Y a cold sweat, but not only should it arrive in Europe.

Until a few years ago, General Motors was not at the forefront of the electrification of its brands. But when public authorities are doing everything to develop this energy, in Europe and elsewhere in the world, the group is starting to get serious about it.

Very low price

We think, for example, of GMC with its Hummer EV or even Cadillac, which launched its Lyriq and other Celestiqs. The company should arrive in Europe soon because of these promising models, as well as the rest of the American group. For the record, the latter has been absent from the Old Continent since 2021, the date of the acquisition of Opel by PSA, which later became Stellantis. But not only that, because Chevrolet should also return to us.

Of course, this will happen with an electric car, which we already know. This is actually the Equinox EV, which was revealed for the first time in October 2022. And now the latter gives us news, more than a year after its unveiling. On his website, the manufacturer already reveals to us its price, and the range that will therefore start from $34,995which is equal to 32,701 euros according to the current exchange rate.

Very low price, which should be less adjusted upwards if the car arrives with us, due to different taxes in France. We also do not know if it will eventually qualify for the ecological bonus, while the latter may still change over time, or even disappear altogether, as will be the case for example in Germany.

As a reminder, US customers will be able to benefit from a $7,500 subsidy, within the IRA (Inflation Reduction Act) set by the US government. The most expensive version of the Chevrolet Equiox will be shown from $46,765, or only 43,699 euros. Which should give its rivals, especially the Tesla Model Y, a cold sweat.

Freedom of hospitality

And for good reason, the best seller from Elon Musk’s brand currently starts at $43,000 in its standard propulsion version, or approximately 40,146 euros. And this within the framework of a discount offered by Tesla, which will only last until March 1. Then he’ll take home about $1,000. In Europe, the SUV will hunt mainly on the ground of the Renault Mégane E-Tech.

The latter is shown from 34,000 euros, the ecological bonus of 4,000 euros is not deducted. But where Equinox is very strong, is with its independence, announced by Electrek for 319 miles, which corresponds to 513 km in its two-wheel drive version. A number that also makes sense according to the American EPA cycle, famous for being more severe than our European WLTP. That’s about 550 kilometers of freedom for us.

However, some information is still missing, such as battery capacity. We know that the latter should be between 50 and 200 kWh and that this is Ultium technology developed in collaboration with LG Chem. There are already rumors that it will be possible to recover approx 110 kilometers in 10 minutes on the direct current terminal, although the charging power is not declared. It also remains to be seen whether the SUV will have an 800-volt architecture or not, while the independent operation of Super Cruise may be present.

In terms of performance, the entry-level version is expected to be powered by one engine of 210 horsepower and 328 Nm of torque. A version with all-wheel drive will also be in the program, without 290 horsepower and 469 Nm of torque.
