A pedestrian was fatally struck by an 18-wheeler on Interstate 12 in Slidell on Sunday night, according to the Slidell Police Department.
The individual, whose identity has yet to be released, was struck while attempting to cross the interstate in the eastbound lanes just after 6 p.m.
The driver of the 18-wheeler, who has not been named, immediately stopped and is cooperating with the police investigation.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel and the body was transported to the St. Tammany Parish Coroner’s Office for an autopsy.
Investigators are now working to determine the circumstances of the accident and whether any charges will be filed.
