600 hp hybrid V8 to target the Mercedes G-Class AMG

Currently, the most powerful Defender has a 525 hp 5.0 V8 engine. But the brand is considering a more aggressive variant that will benefit from a V8 hybrid biturbo with close to 600 hp.

Land Rover has just made official a new version called OCTA of its Defender player. The circuit that evokes without any controversy the V8 biturbo petrol engine with a mild hybrid as opposed to the V8 5.0 of 525 hp and 626 Nm.

Currently the brand has not mentioned any power level or any technical sheet. But by all logic it should be the original 4.4 liter unit from BMW that should take charge.

Aim for 600 hp

The engine already works under the hood of the big brother Range Rover. The power should be close to 600 hp, with the target being the new Mercedes AMG G63 claiming 585 hp and 850 Nm, which also benefits from a small hybrid regularly adding 20 hp and 200 Nm.

Not to mention, to a lesser extent, across the Atlantic, the Ford Bronco Raptor powered by a 418 hp 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6.

The Defender OCTA will be at the top of the range and to this end it has a logo that symbolizes a diamond that shows on its sides and in the passenger compartment.

To absorb the extra power, the Defender’s chassis is modified using a so-called “6D Dynamics” suspension that provides firm control of pitch and roll. So that the body is always in balance and does not suffer from angry attacks of mechanics when lifting or diving.

Consider all areas

And to effectively stop the beast, the Brembo system will be present. Defender OCTA will be presented later this year. The brand is increasingly testing its all-terrain vehicle on the snowy tracks of Sweden, the desert of Dubai, the rock garden of Moab in the United States but also the demanding asphalt route of the Nürburgring circuit, a true mark of excellence. Sports cars are stolen when they are already approaching the target customers.
