Lexus RX: the new frontier of high-end hybrid SUV – ANSA Motori Test

The Lexus RX is changing to a hybrid name, following the technological tradition that has become the real flagship of the brand, and, over time, has also been followed by other manufacturers to meet sustainable needs.
About 5 meters long, 4.89 meters to be exact, the new RX has a rounded design and corners with previous models, in which we find key features of the brand, such as the three-dimensional hourglass grille surrounded by two large air vents, which differs from narrow lights. The side features large wheels, while the wheel is the same color as the bodywork and the contrasting rear pillar makes the whole look smaller. From the rear view, the light clusters stand out and emphasize the width of the car, thanks to the continuity provided by the central element on which the Lexus lettering is highlighted in elegant letters.

The passenger compartment is large for 5 people, and the rear sofa also offers the possibility of varying its orientation, but the boot, with a useful 461 liters, is not among the largest in the category. Materials and assemblies, however, are above par, and the two-tone look of the interior of the tested sample, as well as the elements on the dashboard, emphasize the usual sporty appeal of the F-Sport trim. There are plenty of pockets, such as the one in the central tunnel that also includes a smartphone charging port. There is no shortage of solutions aimed at emphasizing driving comfort, such as double glazing and heated and ventilated front seats. In addition, we see the presence of USB sockets in two different models, and a Mark Levinson audio system. In front of the driver, almost forming a single element, we find digital instruments and a large 14-inch display of the infotainment system, always connected, compatible with smartphones, where all the functions of the car are managed, with the exception of the air conditioner. temperature settings, which are adjusted through two rotors.
At the wheel of the Lexus RX you dominate the road from the driving position which offers a wide view, while in the parking lot the camera helps to assess the dimensions of the car. Then in the city, the rear axle of the steering wheel represents a notable help to deal with difficult turns, while the configuration that filters well and the fluid delivery of the hybrid power unit contribute to the high level of comfort during travel. Under the skin we find a 2.4-liter gasoline engine along with two electric motors that produce a system power of 370 HP. To manage this power there is an all-wheel drive, while the gearbox is a 6-speed automatic, which has been recommended with a continuously variable transmission, which is usually adopted in full hybrids. In a mixed area, a noticeable body line emerges, but the car is confident in maintaining the set path.
In terms of consumption, an average of around 12 km / l is found, while in additional cities the data improves, reaching 15 km / l.
Many driving devices are available, as befits a car of this category, which can be managed intuitively from the touch buttons on the steering wheel and through the indications shown on the head-up display.
Prices start at 81,000 euros for the 350h Premium Hybrid Executive variant and reach 109,000 euros for our 500h Hybrid Turbo F Sport test version, with plug-in hybrids starting at 90,000 euros.
