The Peugeot 9X8 now receives a wider rear wing / FIA WEC

Peugeot has been competing in the FIA ​​​​WEC since the middle of 2022. Except for one podium, there has been no major success since then. This led the French to rework a model called the 9X8 (which is built according to LMH rules). The results have now been delivered – and as expected, the 2024 9X8 now has a wider rear wing.

But that’s not all: the tire width has also been adjusted. Instead of 31 cm wide tires all around, there are now 29 cm wide front and 34 cm wide rear. This is primarily intended to improve grip and traction on the rear axle. The conversion is accompanied by further changes to aerodynamics. In total, about 90 percent of the body was replaced. In addition, the center of gravity of the 9X8 was changed by moving some components and making others lighter.

“We have made decisions that are no longer updated and this difference in performance is not adequately compensated by the BOP (Balance of Performance) in 2023,” says Oliver Jansonnie (Technical Director of Peugeot Sport). “So the idea was to return to a car design that is similar to that of our competitors so that it can be treated equally in the BOP. For this reason, we decided not to use the same tire width of 31/31 cm on all wheels, but instead of 29 cm on the front axle and 34 cm on the rear axle. To be honest it is not a new car as it has the same chassis, but there are many improvements.”

Stickers were also modified. A design was developed that uses the lion’s head in different scales. Yellow, gray and black are the main colors. The debut of the revised Peugeot 9X8 is scheduled for next season’s WEC round on April 21, 2024 at Imola.
