On Saturday, Central Cass capped a perfect season with a North Dakota Class B boys basketball title. The remarkable feat was commemorated with a jubilant celebration, as seen in the photos below.
The Squirrels of Central Cass achieved a herculean feat: a perfect season. With a 68-52 win over Barnes County North in the Class B boys basketball state championship, the Squirrels accomplished an unprecedented feat: a flawless record in the regular and postseason.
The Squirrels have been among the state’s elite teams for years and are perennially one of the favorites to compete for a state title. This year, however, they raised the bar and achieved something that had never been done before.
The Squirrels’ success was due in large part to their balanced attack. They had four players averaging double-digit points, with senior guard Cole Sladek leading the way with 15.7 points per game. Sladek was a crucial cog in the Squirrels’ machine, and his ability to facilitate the offense and hit big shots made him the team’s go-to player.
The Squirrels’ defense was also a major factor in their success. They held opponents to just 41.3 points per game, the lowest average in the state, and their tenacious style of play helped them to a remarkable 32-0 record.
The Squirrels’ accomplishment is a testament to their hard work and dedication. After a long and grueling season, they were rewarded with a perfect ending: a state championship. For Central Cass, it was a season for the ages.
