Sam Lowes (Ducati) aims for the SBK podium / Superbike World Championship for the first time

MarcVDS Ducati and Sam Lowes are an important asset to the World Superbike Championship. Although both are new to the top category of the series world championship, a top 3 first result in Assen should be a reality.

At Phillip Island and Barcelona, Sam Lowes showed impressive speed and already spent several laps in the lead. The fact that the Englishman has not yet been able to achieve a top 5 result was mainly due to his lack of experience in handling the Pirelli tires carefully.

But in Assen next weekend, tire wear does not play such a big role that the MarcVDS driver must be considered.

“After taking a lot of good things from the last race in Catalunya, we travel with great confidence,” said the Ducati rider. “I had a good pace, but I know that I need to improve in some areas to show my full potential. I’ve always enjoyed riding in Assen. I’ve been able to get good results there in the past and I’m looking forward to competing there in Superbike for the first time.”

When Lowes won the 2013 World Supersport Championship, he took victory in Assen. Two years later, the twin brother of Kawasaki factory rider Alex Lowes raced to the finish line in third place in Moto2. His expectations for the third event of the season are at this level.

«Assen will be a new challenge with low temperatures and a different level of grip. “But my goal is to achieve my first Superbike podium,” the 33-year-old said clearly. “We know that the bike works well in Assen and I can’t wait to get started.”
