Chinese Step on the Gas: QJ Cars Test at the Cremona / Supersport World Championship

While the SRK800RR talks with the FIM are still pending, Chinese manufacturer QJ Motor is pushing development forward with a test at the Cremona Circuit ahead of the Supersport meeting in Assen.

QJ Motor’s entry into the 2024 World Supersport Championship was surprising because there was no motorcycle in the product line that would compete at world championship level. The SRK800RR’s 800cc inline four-cylinder engine produces just 95 horsepower from the clutch line. The Yamaha R6, classified as a reference, has an output of 118 hp and almost 145 hp in racing trim!

In addition, the serial machine is very heavy compared to the competition and weighs more than 190 kg with an empty tank. The minimum weight in the Supersport World Championship is 161 kg for everyone except Ducati (166 kg).

In his Barcelona debut, QJ driver Raffaele De Rosa lost 3.3 seconds on his fastest lap (1:47.600 minutes, run in the second race) to the fastest time of Ducati ace Adrian Huertas ( 1:44.197 min, running in Superpole). ) a! Critics previously thought an even wider gap was possible.

Because it would not be possible to bring the current motorcycle to World Championship level under Supersport regulations, QJ Motor is working on a new benchmark model for the first year. Therefore, with the blessing of the FIM, the factory from China participates without homologation and does not deserve points.

One thing is clear: QJ Motor takes its commitment to a series-based world championship seriously. So it joined the team of Manuel Puccetti (in the Supersport and Superbike World Championships with Kawasaki), who handles the processing of the organization and equipment. This week they tested together at the Cremona Circuit. “It was a very good test – we are ready for Assen,” team sources said.
