Polestar 2, debuts model year 2024 with many new features – Tests and News

Polestar, the Swedish manufacturer of high-end electric cars founded by Volvo Car and Zhejiang and Geely Holding Group, has announced major updates to its 5-door Polestar 2, which has also been launched in Italy.
For the 2024 model year the car has a new high-end front end that mirrors the design expected from the Polestar 3.
“Usually the redesign of cars brings only cosmetic changes that often frustrate the main goal of the update itself – said Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath – with the new Polestar 2, we went in depth and updated the technical aspects and powertrain . This is the best Polestar 2 produced to date and, with the intervention in the design of the front end and the new SmartZone, it is also the most beautiful”. The SmartZone that debuts on the Polestar 2 is a front design feature that retains some of the most important safety features, such as a front camera and a medium-range radar. Also new are the 20-inch forged alloy wheels (offered in the Performance Package) that have been updated to match the Polestar 2, in its sportier guise, with the Polestar 3.
All Polestar 2 variants now feature new-generation engines and transmissions to provide significant increases in efficiency and performance. The single-engine variants are rear-wheel drive, and are powered by a new permanent magnet inverter and silicon carbide alternator.
In the new engine, the power increases from 170 to 220 kW (from 230 to 295 HP) and has been optimized to obtain higher efficiency and have higher torque (490 Nm, against the previous 330) and further increase the power performance. The time required to run from 0 to 100 km/h has been reduced by 1.2 seconds to 6.2 seconds.
The Polestar 2 in the two-motor version now has rear-wheel drive which increases driving pleasure and performance thanks to a balanced ratio of reset and torque. The new rear engine is therefore the main source of traction, supported on the front axle by a new asynchronous motor.
This allows for higher total system power – 310kW at 416hp and 740Nm (compared to the previous 300kW and 660Nm), significantly improved traction, higher overall efficiency and more dynamic performance, at a speed of 0-100km. /h which is reached in 4.5 seconds. . For efficiency purposes, the front motor can now be completely removed when not needed. When the driver needs more power, the front engine is activated immediately and easily. However, with the optional Performance Package, power rises to 350 kW (470 HP), with a time from 0 to 100 km/h of just 4.2 seconds. Increased power, performance and driving pleasure are also available with an over-the-air performance software update, downloadable for all Dual motors long-distance vehicles. Li-ion batteries have been improved, which has a positive effect on efficiency and capacity, for example in relation to charging times.
The long-range versions now have CATL 82 kWh batteries with 27 modules while the standard versions battery maintains a capacity of 69 kWh and 24 modules and is supplied by LG Chem. Range has increased for all versions thanks to larger and improved batteries, as well as thanks to improved power delivery and more powerful motors. The performance of the front-engine cut-out on the long-range dual-engine variant is particularly effective in increasing the range, which now stands at 592km WLTP, a significant increase of 105km.
The Polestar 2 can be ordered in Italy from February 28 with first deliveries scheduled for the third quarter of 2023 and prices starting at 55,800 euros.
