The Polestar 3 gets a cheaper base version with more range

Until now, the Polestar 3 it was only announced in a performance version for the Canadian market. Priced at $100,200, it delivers 517 horsepower and 671 pound-feet of torque. All trim levels provided an acceleration time of less than 5 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h.

In a world where the Teslas of this world constantly play with the prices of their cars, Polestar had to react; either reduced the price or expanded the offer more accessible. Currently it is the second option that is preferred. The new base price for the 3 is now $95,900, a $7,000 discount compared to the Performance model. However, if we make a compromise in terms of appearance due to the smaller rims, there is a significant advantage to be gained.

By keeping its 111 kilowatt-hour battery, reducing the size of the wheels and reducing power a little, we get freedom. The power of these “base” versions is now 489 horsepower, and torque, 620 foot-pounds. This is a marginal drop of 28 horsepower and 51 foot-pounds. In general, acceleration from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour will pass in more than 5 seconds. Finally, what will be more interesting is the 57 kilometers of freedom provided by this modification.

There’s a lot going on at Polestar with the 3 and 4 sedans arriving over the next few months. Today’s world of electric cars is constantly being turned upside down by Tesla and price changes. At the moment, this strategy of constantly reducing the price of its different models is forcing other manufacturers to react. It is becoming more and more common to see price adjustments in the world of electronics. Additionally, to better counter the Y, Tesla’s Ford and Chevrolet have slashed the prices of the Mustang Mach-E and Blazer EV.

In the case of Polestar, we understand that the 3 is more expensive than the Y and that it is close to the X in terms of price. However, it makes sense that the manufacturer releases a more affordable version sooner rather than later. The difference is not huge, but at least it allows you to avoid the psychological barrier of $ 100,000.

We know that the 3, 4 and 5 are on the way, but if Polestar aims to do a large amount of production, we will have to offer a small SUV in the range of $ 65,000 to $ 75,000. This is where customers find themselves right now, and there’s a good chance that this will be the case for years to come.
