Polestar 7: First model from European production

With the future Model 7, Polestar may produce a car in Europe for the first time. CEO Thomas Ingenlath told Automotive News Europe in 2022: “It’s important for us that we come to Europe at some point. And that could be around the time we start making the Polestar 7.” Ingenlath wants to let Volvo decide the location of production. “It is up to Volvo to decide where they will use the cars on the platform and where they are built.” In Europe, Volvo now produces cars in Sweden and Belgium. Another production site is planned in Kosice, Slovakia, from 2026.

Polestar releases a new model every year

The Polestar 2 is currently rolling off the assembly line at Volvo’s Taizhou plant in Luqiao, China. The sports SUV Polestar 3 (see photo gallery) has been manufactured at Volvo’s American plant in Charleston, South Carolina, since 2023. A year later, Polestar is producing its Polestar 4 SUV at Geely’s Hangzhou Bay plant in China. The Polestar 5 as a competitor to the Taycan and the Polestar 6 roadster will also roll out of assembly in China – at Polestar’s new factory in Chongqing from 2024.

Since the announcement of the Polestar 7, of which no information is yet available, it is unclear where this new model will go. However, with the new information from Ingenlath, this seems to be clarified: It will be the successor of Polestar 2. This is what the British car portal quotes. motor vehicle Polestar boss. The reason for this is that Polestar maintains a selection of the type of order of its models and therefore counts the series according to the release date.

Ingenlath sees the continuity of naming conventions across generations, which is common in the automotive industry, such as the Golf, E-Class or BMW 3 Series, as a barrier that can slow down innovation in development. This indicates that the Polestar 7 will take a big step in development compared to the Polestar 2. At the same time, it makes it clear that the Polestar 7 should compete in the same segment as the Polestar 2 as a mid-range crossover.

The Polestar 2, which was released in 2020, was revised and facelifted in late 2023 (see photo gallery), so its model cycle may end in 2026 before the Polestar 7 takes over in the 2027 model year – then maybe even from European production for the first time.

Polestar has announced Polestar 7, a new model can roll off the assembly line in Europe. In addition to Volvo’s plants in Belgium and Sweden, there is also a new plant in Slovakia, which is scheduled to start operating in 2026. As of now, Polestar 7 will be the successor of Polestar 2, i.e. a mid-range crossover. The reason for this is Polestar’s uniqueness of numbering model series based on release date, so Polestar 7 will be only the brand’s seventh model.
