Renault Group and Volvo are preparing to launch Flexis, the Tesla of passenger cars

The electric car market in Europe will grow by 40% year-on-year until 2030. To take advantage of this, Renault and Volvo Group, the Swedish truck manufacturer, apart from the Geely-owned car manufacturer, have jointly established a transport organization French cargo. CMA CGM company, the new Flexis that aims to change the van industry. The company will assemble its vehicles at the Renault plant in Sandouville, France.

Every 30 seconds the stored profit improves by 1%

The vans will be modular and will be based on a fully electric platform. This will allow Flexis to produce purpose-built vans to improve the efficiency of delivery businesses. Luca de Meo, CEO of Renault, said that efficiency in the light commercial vehicle sector is an issue, as 30 seconds saved by the equipment company during delivery can improve profits by 1 percent.

The new Vans will have industry first specifications

To reduce delivery times, the vans will have the same footprint as the Renault Kangoo, but with a higher roof to ensure cargo capacity comparable to that of larger trucks such as the Renault Trafic. Small dimensions will be the basis of the turning radius similar to those of a city car. Flexis has also worked closely with equipment companies to improve the interior packaging of the new car.

De Meo: “In a sense it is the Tesla of commercial vehicles”

Another goal was to simplify the boarding process for drivers. It is not surprising if we consider that, according to Philippe Divry, CEO of Flexis, drivers in the sector tend to change jobs every 12-18 months. Streamlining the training process improves their effectiveness more quickly. Indeed, de Meo himself has said he is passionate about Flexis and sees it as more than just a van company. “It’s the Tesla of commercial vehicles.”

300 million euros have been invested in Flexi over the next three years

The CEO of Renault said he is confident that the company will change the perception of passenger cars around the world. The electric platform and modular design give Flexis the opportunity for global production. It is no coincidence that Renault and Volvo, which each own a 45% stake in Flexis, will invest 300 million euros over the next three years. The remaining 10 percent comes from the CMA CGM group. De Meo also said that the company is looking for new partners.
