Polestar continues its sustainability path – World Motors

Polestar has published its 2023 sustainability report, in which the Swedish high-performance car brand has presented its progress in meeting its climate goals, achieving a 9% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions per vehicle sold in 2023.
The figure is equivalent to a reduction of 3.4 tCO2e compared to 2022, achieved by focusing on three main areas such as the use of carefully selected materials with a low climate impact, the use of renewable electricity in the manufacture of vehicles and batteries, as well as taking . measures to improve energy efficiency during use.
“Our vision – commented Fredrika Klarén, head of sustainability at Polestar – is clearly defined because we intend to accelerate the transition to electric vehicles, to introduce more sustainable and innovative solutions to continue to improve electric vehicles. It is important to note that in our industry there is still room for substantial improvement in delivering initiatives to meet climate goals.”
In 2023, Polestar also aims to strengthen its monitoring practices and expand its monitoring of hazardous metals for batteries. A notable achievement is the ability to track the lithium and nickel used in Polestar 3 batteries, thus completing the tracking of cobalt and mica launched in 2020 and 2021 respectively through blockchain technology.
The sustainability report summarizes the steps taken by Polestar to take a proactive approach to managing sustainability risks. In 2023, Polestar also introduced a digital platform to facilitate continuous data collection to support transparency and compliance with standards and regulations.
