Michigan police arrested a getaway driver in a stolen Buick Encore in late May. The happiest player who could be stopped on a busy highway was… 10 years old.
The incident began on May 27 and the Michigan State Police shared the news and photos on its Twitter account a few days later. After the boy stole the silver SUV, the vehicle was quickly tracked through OnStar, an in-car safety feature that provides coordinates for emergency services.
For example, it was discovered that a stolen SUV was driving on Highway 75. Meanwhile, some drivers had already called the police to report that a small child was driving.
A police car followed the car for more than a mile with sirens and lights flashing, but the young driver refused to stop. Dashcam footage from a police car shows the SUV swerving in three lanes. The vehicle can be brought to a safe stop remotely via OnStar.
After the car grazed the fence for a short time and the car stopped moving, the 10-year-old boy tried to flee on foot. He was quickly arrested and transferred to the Saginaw County Juvenile Detention Center.
