Each James Bond release starts a commercial war between different car brands. James Bond has been driving an Aston-Martin for a long time, you might say.
Back to Aston Martin
And yet, there were plenty of secret agent pranks when it came to cars. From a Citroën 2CV to a Lotus Esprit, James always does what he wants.
For the film Specter, released in 2015, the production announced a contract with Jaguar Land Rover.
Collaboration with JLR
Jaguar Land Rover will supply the production Jaguar C-X75, Range Rover Sport SVR and Defender produced by Jaguar Land Rover Special Operations.
The Jaguar C-X75 is seen in a spectacular chase through the streets of Rome, along with the Aston Martin DB10.
The C-X75 is a concept car, never in series production, the ones in the film were built in collaboration with Williams Advanced Engineering in the Oxford area of England.
The concept car in a James Bond movie is very cool. But it’s Aston-Martin that strikes the hardest blow.
Aston Martin goes strong
Jaguar’s rival will actually build an all-new DB10 from scratch, so James Bond can drive it in the Spectre.
This is the first time that a car has been created by a car manufacturer, just to star in a movie.
Its chassis is based on a modified V8 Vantage, with a different wheel drive and a 4.7 liter V8. The bodywork is made entirely of carbon fiber, and the lines are particularly neat.
Race anthology
In the film, Bond borrows a DB10 from Q, leaving a bottle of champagne behind. During the Specter meeting in Rome, James Bond ran under fire in a car.
Then begins a chase with a Jaguar C-X75 where we see two very rare cars roaring through the streets of Rome.
The principal photography sequence involving the DB10 was shot in Rome over three weeks in March 2015, with 350 people, including 250 traffic controllers!
Big production
The filming covers a length of 4 kilometers including five bridges. In total, 15 areas will be used during the movement, including the road leading to the Vatican, Via della Conciliazione.
To make the DB10 a real James Bond car, we added a bullet-proof body, a retractable seat with a parachute system, a rear-mounted double-barreled machine gun, a digital aiming system, and even a flamethrower in the exhaust.
Rare
In total, only 10 examples will be built, mainly for the film. Only two models left the shot intact.
One of them is on display at the Cinema Museum in London, while the second copy ended up at auction.
It was sold for three million euros for the benefit of Doctors Without Borders on February 19, 2016 at Christie’s.
