Ducati wants to win with its SBK star in the Suzuka / Superbike World Championship

Asia and in particular the prestigious Suzuka 8h is the last bastion of the big Japanese factories. Starting this year, Ducati aims to conquer this area itself.

In February, Ducati announced its partnership with Yukio Kagayama, who will use the Ducati V4R in his team in the Japanese Superbike series in the future. Ryo Mizuno, who had previously been successful with Honda, was hired as a driver. In this year’s season opener at the Honda race track in Suzuka, Mizuno already took second place.

The collaboration between Ducati and the Kagayama team is imminent. The former Alstare Suzuki rider attended the Superbike test in Jerez de la Frontera and looked over the shoulder of the Ducati.it factory team. There were many important instructions for visitors from Asia.

Ducati’s real goal is probably the prestigious eight-hour race at Suzuka. Of course, the Kagayama V4R is equipped with Bridgestone tires. No achievement can be sweeter than winning all the Japanese plants in this event.

And Ducati manager Paolo Ciabatti does not hide this. The goal is to compete with the best riders from the MotoGP and Superbike World Championships. But not this year, because the date of July 19 to 21 clashes with the Superbike event in Most.

“We will be there, but not with the appearance of a factory,” Ciabatti confirmed to our colleagues there GPOne. “Of course, our engineers will be there to collect data and gain important knowledge. In this race we know very well who we are competing against and it will be a big challenge. I do not deny that we would like to participate this year with our MotoGP and Superbike riders; But that does not work because of scheduling conflicts and other commitments. However, we would like to include them in the project in 2025.
