Portland Police find ‘discarded’ handgun in Portland after an extensive search

Portland police have uncovered a “discarded” handgun following an extensive investigation into its whereabouts.

Officers with the Portland Police Bureau (PPB) scoured the city for the weapon, which had reportedly been thrown away by an unidentified individual. The search concluded on Saturday afternoon, when authorities found the handgun in a location that had not been previously identified.

According to PPB spokesman Sgt. Chris Burley, the department was notified about the weapon on Friday night and immediately mobilized its search efforts. Officers conducted interviews and canvassed the city before finding the gun.

“We are thankful that we were able to locate this weapon and take it off the streets,” Sgt. Burley said. “Given the potential danger that a discarded firearm could pose, this was an important investigation that required a lot of effort and dedication from our officers.”

The PPB is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the weapon, as well as its owner. Authorities are asking anyone with information to come forward and contact the department’s non-emergency line.

“We are asking anyone who may have seen something or knows something to contact us,” Sgt. Burley said. “We take all firearms off the street very seriously, and this incident is no exception. All information is important to us, and we urge anyone with knowledge to reach out.”

The PPB is continuing to investigate the matter, and is asking anyone with information to contact the department’s non-emergency line.
