The new version is 3,800 euros cheaper than the old one

(Motorsport-Total.com/Motor1) – Electric cars are currently becoming cheaper instead of more expensive. The new Citroen e-Berlingo also shows this. Citroen has now announced the prices of the new version presented in December with the appearance of the e-C3 and the new LFP battery: They start at 36,940 euros. This makes the car 3,800 euros cheaper, because the old version was available from 40,970 euros.

Grow

The new version can already be ordered and there is already one official price list. As usual, M (4.40 meters) and XL (4.75 meters) lengths are offered, in Plus and Max versions. This has a total storage capacity of 50 kWh and is intended to provide a range of up to 345 km – which is another 25 km more than the one communicated in December.

To die Discontinued version of e-Berlingo it also had a 100 kW engine at the front, but the WLTP range was higher at 284 km, i.e. 61 km or 18 percent less than the new variant. Power consumption decreased from 19.4-20.6 to 18.0-18.6 kWh/100 km only in the M version. Here the difference in consumption is 1.4 kWh or about seven percent. The increased range is not only due to lower power consumption.

For the old 50 kWh battery, Citroen did not reveal whether it had a gross or net capacity. Maybe it was the overall value – that would at least explain the difference.

Three-phase charger on board for up to 11 kW charging power

Also new is that a heat pump is now available in the e-Berlingo, even as standard from the base version onwards. In addition, the recovery power can now be changed in three steps using the paddles on the steering wheel – previously you could only select the B mode on the transmission (for more power recovery). As usual, there are three driving modes to choose from: Eco, Power and Normal.

As expected, a three-phase on-board charger of up to 11 kW charging power is standard in Germany. The full charging process should take 5h05. As usual, the battery can also be charged up to 100 kW of direct current. A charge stroke from 0 to 80% takes thirty minutes. The best way to find suitable charging stations for long journeys is to use the e-Route app, suggests Citroen.

Five body colors are available, including the new Kiama Blue and Sirkka Green. There are also popular finish colors in white, black and gray. Otherwise it will get the same front as the e-C3 and the new Citroen logo. The difference is huge:

Up to a loading height of 3.05 meters in the XL version

In the cockpit there is now a slightly angular steering wheel and a new logo. It can now be enabled as an option (usually with “Max” devices). In addition, the upper center console was not left. As far as the touchscreen is concerned, a 10-inch monitor has now been replaced by an eight-inch one. The instrument display is also new; it is black and white but can be configured.

As usual, there are three seats in the back that can be moved lengthwise and folded down. For an additional payment of 750 euros, you get a third row and two additional seats in both versions (M and XL). All variants have two sliding doors with electric windows. There are “Advanced Comfort” front seats with a special design and especially high-quality foam. They are available for the Max version as a package for 300 euros.

The passenger seat can be folded as usual; The loading height then increases to 2.70 m for the M version and 3.05 m for the XL version. We also stock the Modutop roof with a panoramic glass roof and rooms under the roof (accessible from the rear).

Cargo space ranges from 775 to 4,000 liters. The limited number covers the M version with a five-seat configuration loaded up to the package shelf; for almost an unbelievable 4,000 liters you should load the XL version to the roof behind the two front seats.

The current version of Berlingo is already the third generation. It came to market in 2018. The Citroen e-Berlingo followed in 2021 as an electric version; since the beginning of 2022 the car only has an electric motor is available. The new version is also again available with petrol and diesel engines – we have cut the corresponding versions from the price list shown above.

All Things Considered

The electric Berlingo was at least nine percent cheaper, although the car has been significantly improved. Range increased by an impressive 18 percent (due to lower power consumption and probably also higher net battery capacity), and the car now has a heat pump and a large touchscreen as standard.
