Preview, Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup, round 5, Formula 1 race at Le Castellet (France) 2022

  • The Porsche Supercup kicks off the second half of the season with the first show in France
  • Dylan Pereira (BWT Lechner Racing) comes to Le Castellet as the leader of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup standings

On Sunday, July 24, 2022, the 5th out of 8 rounds of the international Porsche-make cup will be contested in Le Castellet in the south of France. Circuit Paul #Ricard is part of the calendar for the first time in 30 years of the Porsche Supercup. The 32 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars start on the 5.842 km track ahead of the Formula 1 French Grand Prix. Dylan Pereira (BWT Lechner Racing) is only 2 points ahead of #Porsche Junior Laurin Heinrich (SSR Huber Racing).

Since its debut in 1993, the Porsche Supercup has hosted 23 different races in 18 countries. Another will be added next weekend. The one-stop international Porsche 911 GT3 Cup will be contested for the first time at the Circuit Paul Ricard in Le Castellet in the south of France. The fifth race of the season will start on Sunday, July 24, 2022 at 11.45 am, before the Formula 1 French Grand Prix.

Stuttgart. The Porsche #Mobil 1 #Supercup starts the second half of the season next weekend at Le Castellet. The table top is close. Just 18 points separate championship leader Dylan Pereira from Luxembourg from fourth overall, LWT Lechner Racing teammate Harry King from Great Britain. In the middle is the German Porsche Junior Laurin Heinrich from the SSR Huber #Racing team and the defending champion Larry ten Voorde. The Dutchman from the GP Elite team had lost the top of the table in the previous race because he was involved in an accident through no fault of his own.

“The drivers at the top of the overall standings all work at a high level. I think that in the second half of the season the fight for the title in the Supercup will be more exciting than it has been in a long time,” says Oliver Schwab, project manager of Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. »Le Castellet race is coming at the right time. None of the four pilots at the top of the table have ever raced there. So the chances are right for this quartet.”

Pereira won two races in the first half of the season, ten Voorde and Heinrich each took the winner’s trophy once. All 3 know the Circuit Paul Ricard from a cockpit perspective from personal testing of their teams. On the other hand, some pilots of the French Supercup can fall back on the experience of racing with the 5.842 km track. For example, CLRT driver Marvin Klein and Dorian Boccolacci, sixth in the table from the Martinet and Alméras team, competed in the Porsche Carrera #Cup France with the 375-kilowatt 911 GT3 Cup at Le Castellet.

“If they can use their home advantage it will definitely show in the 45 minutes of practice,” says tournament leader Dylan Pereira. “Circuit Paul Ricard has difficult combinations where you have to go into the corners – these sections also offer good overtaking opportunities.”

Porsche Junior Laurin Heinrich is hoping for a similar and good race for him as at the start of the Supercup at Silverstone, where he celebrated his first victory of the season. “The situation is the same for me. I have never raced in Le Castellet. Maybe I can get a result like in England.

The 28 registered participants in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup will be joined by four guest drivers at Le Castellet. They include two Australians named for French team Martinet and Alméras, Aaron Love and Stephen Grove, as well as Ariel Levi, who competes for Huber Racing. The first Supercup driver from Israel competes for the second time this season.

Circuit Paul Ricard in Le Castellet (France)

Opened in 1970, the circuit is named after its first owner, liqueur maker Paul Ricard. Special features included the 1.6 km long Mistral Straight and safety measures such as a curbed lane barrier, which was quite innovative at the time. From 1971 to 1990, Le Castellet hosted the #Grands #Prix of France for Formula 1. After being sold to a company owned by then Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone and converted according to the plans of German architect Hermann Tilke, the race set the standards new again in terms of security. Several route alternatives up to 6.105 km long are available. In 2018, the Formula 1 French Grand Prix returned to what is officially known as the Paul Ricard High Technology Test Track. It is also used by many teams for endurance tests before the 24 hours of #Le #Mans. For the first time, the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup races on the 5.842 km #GrandPrix track.
