Electric cars: Kia does not forget them but believes more in hybrid models

The international car market for electric cars has not been in good shape for several weeks, because sales are not growing fast enough and, in some countries, due to the lack of subsidies, registration figures are falling, for example in Germany. In this economic and industrial context that can be described as cautious, Kia will rely, in the short and medium term, more on HEV (Hybrid Electric Vehicles) and PHEV (Fuel Electric Vehicles) to achieve its financial goals that is, without course, associated with the sale of cars that do on his catalog. It was during the recent “Investors’ Day” that Kia presented, through its CEO, Ho Sung Song, this “hybrid roadmap”.

Kia seems cautious about the future of electric cars. Without forgetting the last, important clarification, the South Korean car manufacturer will invest in the development of light hybrid vehicles (HEV) and hybrid engines (PHEV).. Here, in part, is the official press release published on this topic by the South Korean brand: “To respond quickly to changes in the market environment, Kia will ensure maximum flexibility in the performance of its range. Kia plans to strengthen its hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) lineup from six models in 2024 to nine models by 2028, with HEV powertrain options being offered on most of the brand’s flagship models. »

As for all its electric, hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles, here are Kia’s goals : “The company also plans to become the leading electric vehicle brand by selling a high percentage of electric models among its total sales, including hybrid electric vehicles (HEV), plug-in hybrids (PHEV) and electric vehicles of batteries, indicating sales of the electric model. 2.48 million. units per year, or 58% of Kia’s total sales in 2030.”

Finally, after General Motors, BMW, Mercedes-Benz Group and Ford Motor Company, so it’s Kia’s turn to believe, for the coming years, more in HEVs (Hybrid Electric Vehicles) and PHEVs (Built-In Electric Vehicles) than electric vehicles (BEV). Will 2024 be a good year in terms of BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle) sales? The answer to this question will be followed every quarter.
