Ford confirms: the Mustang GTD street racer will come to Europe

Europe will still have to wait a while for the first deliveries of the new Ford Mustang. America’s most popular coupe and convertible has turned 60, but there’s no question of early retirement just yet. Several new variants were announced in the domestic market during the birthday celebration, and Ford also confirmed that the impressive GTD is now coming our way.

No, the last letter of that extra name does not mean a diesel engine. With the Mach-E, Ford has been offering an electric Mustang for a long time, but the ‘real’ of course is still only available with petrol engines. GTD is the name of a very aggressive variant, it is actually a street version of the GT3 racing car which will also be seen at the start of the 24 Hours of Le Mans in June. The car was already delivered in the US last year, when Ford announced a price of around $300,000.

Junior version

European shipping seemed unlikely, but Ford has changed their mind. There will be a limited number of copies coming here, all with a 5.2 liter and approximately 800 hp V8, eight-speed clutch automatic transmission, carbon ceramic brakes, semi-active suspension and modern aerodynamics. The car will have its first public European ‘show’ in mid-June at Le Mans, when the order books will also open. Be quick probably be the message. As an owner, any kind of embarrassment will not do, a wide body and a large rear spoiler, which also “sits” on the window pillars, make it an aggressive looking sports car.
