Peugeot 205 GTi celebrates its first 40 years – Historic Cars and Motorcycles

It was March 1984 when the Peugeot 205 GTi was launched, one of the most attractive 3-door sports cars ever, characterized by a line decorated with sporty details, and with a power that made it a success among lovers of good driving. His commercial presentation was accompanied by a video inspired by the world’s most famous secret agent. Two versions were proposed, the 1.6 with 115 horsepower and, later, the 1.9 with 130 horsepower, for the range completed by the cabriolet version, designed and built by Pininfarina.
The Peugeot 205 GTi differed from its underperforming siblings with a unique three-door design, a large rim with a red entry on the entire body of the car, and fenders that were a few centimeters wider. The look was completed by a spoiler on the tailgate, with smooth black moldings on the pillars, and GTi 1.6 or 1.9 lettering. The range of colors included five colors, two metallic and three pastel, named, respectively, Graphite gray and Futura gray, the metallic ones; and white Meije, black and red Vallelunga are the pastels. The former were optional with a glass sunroof.

Initially, the 1.6 showed 105 HP, but already in 1986 it was joined by a version with 115 HP, and the full odometer range from 200 to 220 km / h. The 1.9 130 HP, at the top of the range, was modified in terms of gear ratio, transmission and brake system, with disc transmission also at the rear. The more powerful variant also had 11 mm wider tracks. All basic high-performance control measures that made it, at the time, one of the fastest small cars on the market. In fact, it ran from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.8 seconds, covered 400 meters from the start in 29.2 seconds, and reached a top speed of 206 km/h.
