Lotus Bakeries has passed the 1 billion euro mark

Lotus wants to be in the top three of the world’s biggest biscuit brands with its Biscoff caramel biscuits. The company from Lembeke is doing well, with record sales and growth of more than 20% in 2023.

Top three cakes

Lotus grew by 21% last year to 1.063 billion euros. The cookie baker thus reaches the billion mark for the first time. The growth is not only due to the increase in prices: there was also a growth of around 10%. This is organic, about 1% can be attributed to the discovery of Peter’s Yard.

The main Biscoff brand accounted for 54% of sales, the “natural foods” category (Nakd and Trek, but also the new Peter’s Yard) represents almost a quarter of sales. “Local heroes” such as Peijnenburg, Dinosaurus cookies and Suzy’s waffles grew by 15% to 22% of sales.

Biscoff itself is now in the top five of the world’s biggest biscuit brands, but it has been in the running for the top three for a long time. Additional investment in production should help with this: in addition to the Lembeke plant in East Flanders, there are also production sites in Mebane in the United States and Chonburi in Thailand. Recurring sales increased in line with sales by 22% to 208 million euros.
