Last season’s Swedish rally champion, Tom Kristensson, will not defend the title he won in 2022. The Swede has also withdrawn from the 2023 European Championships.
This year, the Swede has already participated in three rounds of the European Championship, but has not won the top spot in any of them. In Fafe’s rally in Portugal he finished ninth, in the second round in the Canary Islands he did not even enter the top ten.
Also in Rally Poland, the third round of the circuit held on gravel roads in Masuria, he did not improve his score. Due to the breakdown of the car, problems with the gearbox and damaged suspension, the Swede withdrew.
He announced his decision on social media.
“There were many reasons for this, one of the most important is the problem of finding the right budget. Before the start, I was hoping for a good season, but it didn’t happen. I feel this year I can’t. drive 100 percent. success,” explained the Swedish driver.
Kristensson added, however, that he will not give up the sport forever.
“I still want to drive a rally car, I enjoy it a lot. I just need time to get back in better shape” – he added.
In the Polish rally championship 2023, after two rounds, the leader is Latvia’s Martins Sesks (Skoda Fabia RS Rally2), who unexpectedly won the 79th Rally Poland, which ended a few days ago. Sesks has 60 points. Grzegorz Grzyb (Skoda Fabia RS Rally2) collected five down.
The third round of the series will be gravel Rally Podlaski June 1-3. (PAP)
