OLD GASTEL – Tom Bus (78), in the presence of several guests and members of the Samenstichting Oud Gastel, received a municipal compliment from the councilor Hans Wierikx for making the former butchery of his house available as an exhibition space, completely free of charge.

After his mother’s death in 2003, Tom returned to live in his parents’ house. The idea of using the shop window and part of the old butcher’s shop as a display area emerged during the extensive renovation. “It turned out that there was a lot of stuff from the butcher shop, so I put it on display and a lot of people stopped to look. That made me use this old shop for people to do shows,” he explains.

Mini-museum

“Your small museum is eye-catching and highly appreciated by many people. That’s why the municipality would like to prioritize you and reward you with municipal compliments,” said councilor Wierikx. “I am very happy with that. A nice surprise. I’ve been working on it for about ten years and a lot of people have been there. I like doing it and I also get good feedback, “says Tom. The goal is to have new shows every three months. “Others register themselves or people who have been here bring someone else.”

Shop

Adrienne Colin from Roosendaal is currently exhibiting her paintings and is very grateful to Mr Bus for this. “On behalf of all the artists, thank you very much for using this opportunity, especially since there is little opportunity to perform anywhere these days. People even call me to ask when the store is open, haha. He is humble about his own work. “Oh, I’ll just do something.”

In recent years, many people have taken advantage of Tom’s generous offering. There have been exhibitions of ceramics, stained glass, origami, decorations, paintings, sculptures and products made by people with disabilities. “I personally stood there with my collection of comedians and comedians and my LPs and singles,” says Jan Musters, who helps Tom organize and decorate. “The picture from my friend will be in the window from next week.”

Christmas village

Tom has already won the window and facade decoration of Vastelaovedzotten twice. “I helped decorate and decorate it and he got the credit,” laughs neighbor (former) Jeanne Kepers. In recent years, a Christmas village was built in December with his help. “It is a big job to put up that Christmas window. That will take a week. This remained until January 6. Now that we have moved, I have to see if that still works.”
