Red Bull F1 lists next Red Bull driver: “He hasn’t won anything there yet”

Helmut Marko, Red Bull Racing consultant, faces an important choice heading into 2025: the second seat next to Max Verstappen. Sergio Perez is the favorite based on his results so far in 2024, but McLaren’s Lando Norris is also still on the list.

In conversation with News TV Marko says that despite Norris’ recent contract extension with McLaren, Red Bull are still considering the Brit. “Lando Norris is young, and of course we will watch him.” For now, Norris’ future seems to lie with McLaren, the team he also made his F1 debut for. A few podium spots were already on the cards for the talented Brit, but two things are still missing.

Norris is still undefeated

Norris has been driving in F1 for a few years now, but he is yet to win. The same applies to a car that has a chance to win the title. The question is whether this will ever happen at McLaren. His next chance seems to be in 2026, Marko also knows. “He hasn’t won any Grands Prix yet. His dad joked that he might win a race when Max retires, but if he comes to us he’ll win fast.”

Marko is glad that the frequently asked questions are off the table

Marko has not won a race with Red Bull Racing in 2024, the Australian Grand Prix, and is happy that he no longer has to answer questions about a flawless season. “Fortunately, the question of whether we will win all the races is already off the table, but we want to win the championship, our rivals have come closer to us including Ferrari, it is important that we increase the difference again in the championship, among drivers and constructors.”
