In variable conditions, GRT Yamaha rider Remy Gardner had a strong practice on Friday. Third in the combined time list of the World Superbike Championship in Assen, he showed his talent.
Remy Gardner performed well in practice Friday despite the difficult track conditions. He is just three tenths of a second behind Alvaro Bautista’s best of the day (Ducati/1:35.473 min) and was the fastest Yamaha rider in third place.
After a difficult previous race weekend, Gardner expects an increase in performance in Assen: “Barcelona was not the best for our bike. Things went well on Sunday’s race. Now we are back on track. Our package works well in the fast corners, which there are several here.
There was light rain on and off throughout the day, so the track never dried out and had little grip. Shortly before the end of the second SBK practice session, heavy rain set in, tightening the times and with them Gardner’s third place.
With temperatures below 10 degrees this weekend, tire choice is important if conditions allow for a slick start. “I’m not sure if the SCX tire makes sense in these temperatures. We hope we can collect more data on Saturday,” said the eleventh World Cup.
Friday times are not very meaningful due to changing conditions. Compared to last year, the drivers lost one second, and the weather report also predicts changeable weather in the state of Drenthe in the coming days. Drivers have to deal with cold, wet conditions, which can cause a few surprises.
