Completing the Milan Hypermile Challenge, the Tesla Model 3 Rwd travels over 600 kilometers

Milan, 22 April. (Adnkronos) – The first Milan Hypermile Challenge ended at 5.30 pm on Saturday 20 April, a challenge that aimed to reach 500 kilometers of autonomy with the Tesla Model 3 Rwd, organized by the non-profit association Tesla Owners Italy during the active Milanese Innovation many. Week of Friday 19 and Saturday 20 April. “After more than 27 hours of driving – says the press release – the odometer reached 609 km, traveled in Milanese Week traffic with 7 drivers who drove in turns without stopping and without recharging the car battery Model 3 used 55 kWh of electricity, energy equivalent to 5.6 liters of petrol: this brings the theoretical range of our electric car to around 110 kilometers per litre, a figure that surpasses even the most efficient cars by five times”.

The Milan Hypermile Challenge was also a challenge to the toxic air of metropolitan areas. “The latest figures provided by the European Environment Agency report 63,000 premature deaths per year due to the damage of environmental pollution – explains Prof. Alessandro Miani, president of the Italian Society of Environmental Medicine and one of the pilots of the Challenge -. Air pollution causes damage very similar to that of smoking even if we are non-smokers and reduces our life expectancy by about three years.”

The car chosen for the Milan Hypermile Challenge was the smallest of Tesla’s range, the Model 3 Rwd, “showing that the electric car is an affordable and even more attractive vehicle thanks to incentives. Tesla Model 3 price list RWD is 40,490 euros and with the soon to be introduced ecobonus car it can drop to 26,740 euros, making it competitive not only compared to cars in the C sector but also to some city cars”, highlights the note.

The seven drivers, Luca Del Bo, Alberto Oberdan Aleandri, Giovanni Giuseppe Savini, Daniele Invernizzi, Matteo Valenza, Matteo Massarenti and Alessandro Miani, drove in turns without stopping, for a total of 14 laps in a mixed urban and extra-urban circuit that saw the Tesla traveling along the Milanese outer ring road and then stopping for a driver change at the Tesla Store in Milan Linate. The recovery and management of Tesla’s conventional energy resources made it possible to exceed the set goals.

“The Milan Hypermile Challenge achieves its true success as an initiative born from the ground up, with electric vehicle owners who reap the benefits of sustainable mobility every day and who contribute to defining new frontiers and new challenges for the well-being of our planet. A true promise that has the value of more than a thousand meetings and which make each follower of the innovation a protagonist. And I am proud to contribute with Tesla Owners Italia”, says one of the pilots, Giovanni Giuseppe Savini, economist and agricultural entrepreneur.

“The challenges of hypermiling also help you learn how to drive efficiently. With hypermiling you get to the traffic lights using only kinetic energy as much as possible, you drive calmly and calmly, you are more careful when driving and you save energy. If you use 20 % hypermiling for your urban driving even with a combustion car you will find yourself using less, reducing the carcinogenicity emitted by the smoke, having less stress and causing fewer accidents”, adds Daniele Invernizzi, president of eV- Now! and co-founder of Tesla Owners Italia.

Alberto Oberdan Aleandri, 25 years old, a sales agent who chose the Tesla Model 3 Rwd for his work, emphasizes that “it was good to be able to show that electric cars even in the worst conditions, like the traffic of the Milanese design week. and many traffic lights and queues, allow exceptional journeys in complete comfort and with maximum efficiency.” Pierpaolo Zampini, vice president and co-founder of Tesla Owners, oversaw a live stream on social media that lasted more than 27 hours without interruption, he adds. : “Millions of cars circulate in the extremely polluted heat in Italy which contributes to tens of thousands of deaths from smog per year. We can say that every electric car, every Tesla sold helps to save a human life”.

The car chosen for the challenge, the Tesla Model 3 Rwd, also benefited from the innovative ION Evo tires, provided by Hankook, the sponsor of the event. Tesla also contributed to the organization, providing a car for the challenge and providing the basis for the change of drivers at the Tesla Store in Milan Linate. During the two days of the Milan Hypermile Challenge many interested parties had the opportunity to test drive to get a personal experience of the economic and environmental benefits and the pleasure of driving a Tesla. Cinzia Agazzi, co-founder of Tesla Owners Italy, remembers another very important characteristic: “All Teslas are cars with a high level of static safety, and the Model 3 was rated as the safest car, getting 5 stars in the Euro Ncap tests, with a score of 96 % for occupant protection. Additionally, driver assistance technologies bring all Teslas to the fore in driving safety.”

Finally, Luca Del Bo, president and co-founder of Tesla Owners Italy, sends a message to politicians, local administrations and citizens: “Today, each of us not only can, but must, make a difference. We immediately buy food and things that guarantee consumption low plastic or plastic free, we use certified electricity from renewable sources for our homes and we use electric cars for transport. In short, today we have a moral responsibility, we can contribute with our small daily gestures to a better environment and safe for us but above all for our children and grandchildren; change depends only on us and must start from the bottom, from our behavior.”
